Da Vinci Restaurant Review

Karl and Nicki are two of the loveliest people and their restaurant reflects the wonderful personalities that they put into the ambience and food they provide.

The vitello saltimbocca (veal) is to die for, the bistecca paesana is to die twice for (it is Karl's signature dish). The smoked chicken salad starter is glorious and full of exotic salad leaves and colour, and the gamberoni are large luscious and succulent with a mysterious secret sauce.

I judge an Italian restaurant by its spaghetti carbonara because for me it is another favourite and so common that it is difficult to excel, I have eaten in Milan, Rome, Florence, Bologna and Moderna (to name but a few) and this is the best to date. They need to add some Italian meats as antipasta - I told Karl already!!!

The wine list is well-balanced and full of choice, the Valpolicella Classico is amazing and the white Verdicchio Classico is equally robust and very fairly priced. They also stock (my idea) an excellent and cheaply priced brandy that goes by the name Vecchia Romana (a true Italian brandy) with that slight zest of almond essence.

I hope this recommendation leads you to this wonderful place with linen on linen and first class service. Book in advance, particularly on a Friday or Saturday, because otherwise you will not get in, even mid-week can be full.
